This is the best red Virginia i believe I have ever had. For such a straight forward flake, a bowl of Carolina Red Flake can mostly hold my interest throughout the smoke. At the beginning, although it's sweet and fruity, there's a notable bready/doughy flavour. a flake cut is advertised, in my tin I found a broken flake, probably due to the transfer of the tobacco. Slightly higher nicotine past the medium mark. They packed a lot of flavor in this one leaf. The sweetness is delicious and brown sugar-like in character while the smoke is almost creamy tasting. Th is medium-strength, medium-flavored blend hit the mark like other C&D small-batch offerings. Some people don't give into the hype, and understandable. Ive tried Wessex and H&H - Bright Night and Astleys black, and all have been fantastic blends in their own right, but none have come close to this. The tanginess boarders on sour occasionally and this adds to the complexity of the smoke. If this sounds like you, I implore you to try to get your hands on some of this; it's a deep, sophisticated Virginia that ranks right up there with some of the best I have ever tried, but even moreclean? A bowlful of tongue burn. 2022 Carolina Red Flake 2oz. There is more complexity in this blend than others in this genre too. It's sweet, tangy, tart, grassy, with absolutely no bite to speak of. $14.25. But what about when it runs out? Not the same, but an A+ nonetheless. A gentle hay-like flavour is notable throughout a bowl, it doesn't make it too ''light'' a flavour but does reduce any chance of the fruity side seeming too clumsy. It lights easily and burns very well. In any case, labels, as important as they are, fortunately, have nothing to do with the actual tobacco itself, which by the way, is, in this particular instance, nothing short of fabulous! I also felt there was a slight Burley component ( like Orliks Golden Red). It is an exceptional red Virginia in all its natural glory. Similar Blends: Orliks Golden Red, GLP Union Square. The fruitiness is more reminiscent of lush plums than citrus; any ''zest'' is a good pace behind. Individual reviews are the opinion(s) of the contributor and do not reflect the opinion(s)
Cornell & Diehl Carolina Red Flake Pipe Tobacco. I remember being a newer pipe smoker and trying it in blends that had it as a base like Autumn Evening and not really caring for it, now its my favorite part of the blend. Been smoking nothing but Virginia for close to 35 years and this one is at the top! Can be smoked folded or rubbed out & has a long burn rate. The combination of sweet and tart really makes for an outstanding blend. Near perfect moisture once rubbed out for me. I try and try. I think the blend that broke me on red was Blockade Runner, a tasty rum soaked navy cake that still has a raw, pure tobacco taste behind the rum. Like the description states, lots of sweet, tang, citrus, grass, and some bread going on here. This has also a very strong nicotine punch past the medium range . The actual name of the blend is in black on a dark red background color, in written script, and half the size, at best, than the words Small Batchso pardon you for the confusion, right? Well two had massive creases in the tin so I chose to open the worst one and popped the dent out with my fingers and you could hardly tell the difference. (It would be interesting to mix this with a little Cabbie's Mixture the citrus fruit in this tobacco might pair well with the deep raisin of that other blend.) I wonder how much Carolina Red Flake tins would have sold if they'd given out free samples first. The second third gets darker, richer, and earthier. Nice Virginia broken flake and C&D did not lie when they said it came from a special grade of Virginia. Its even better than the tin of Christmas Cheer that I spent a stupid amount of money on, and is possibly a close second. Love me my heavy Lat-forward English blends (50%+ Latikia, thank you). Im primarily a Virginia and Va/Per smoker but do enjoy a nice Oriental forward English also. This is a tobacco tin worth waiting for and worth it's money X10. I adore the first half of the bowl. None of the notes of the flavor bouquet are knocked out or intensified, even if you sniff for a long time - only an almost imperceptible smell of white pepper appears. Highly recommended if you like straight Virginia. Smoky and burns well for me with few to zero re-lights. Burns at a moderate pace and needs 2-3 relights. It comes across in the nose, a bready, earthy, simple dried plant essence, but instead of dominating the tobacco, it's a top note to a composed, gentle, and fresh red Virginia. Not sure what it is but a strong cigar essence takes over and the wonderful Virginias fall far to the background.
