This is the best red Virginia i believe I have ever had. For such a straight forward flake, a bowl of Carolina Red Flake can mostly hold my interest throughout the smoke. At the beginning, although it's sweet and fruity, there's a notable bready/doughy flavour. a flake cut is advertised, in my tin I found a broken flake, probably due to the transfer of the tobacco. Slightly higher nicotine past the medium mark. They packed a lot of flavor in this one leaf. The sweetness is delicious and brown sugar-like in character while the smoke is almost creamy tasting. Th is medium-strength, medium-flavored blend hit the mark like other C&D small-batch offerings. Some people don't give into the hype, and understandable. Ive tried Wessex and H&H - Bright Night and Astleys black, and all have been fantastic blends in their own right, but none have come close to this. The tanginess boarders on sour occasionally and this adds to the complexity of the smoke. (It would be interesting to mix this with a little Cabbie's Mixture the citrus fruit in this tobacco might pair well with the deep raisin of that other blend.) I do recommend letting the tobacco dry out a little bit before lighting up because there was a little bit of moisture build up. Not sure what it is but a strong cigar essence takes over and the wonderful Virginias fall far to the background. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires a couple more than an average number of relights. It was not overpowering and lingured on the tongue between draws.
